Activities overview of SVIT in 2006

 

Projects realized:

 

“Activated Ukraine”: fostering peace, voluntarism and international understanding through volunteer’s exchanges bilateral project with Service Civil International Switzerland, with financial support from “Ostprojekt”. Project period – December 2005 – November 2006. The project aimed to:

-          to develop informational and educational materials on volunteering and voluntary service activities

-          to improve cooperation among NGOs working with volunteers and organizing volunteer projects

-          to raise skills of young activists in organization and management of voluntary service activities

-          to develop training system and improve overall management in SVIT

 

In the framework of the project two training-seminars were organized on project management and leadership, two short-term international volunteer projects (environmental in Regional Landscape Park Kleban-Byk, and social in the boarding school for mentally disabled children), and internship of Ukrainian volunteers in international volunteer projects of SCI-Switzerland. Project budget – 3982,09 Euro

 

Youth Transcending New Frontiers has continued in 2006. In the framework of YTNF, SVIT-Ukraine has organized in 2006 international volunteer projects on gender “Strong-Equal!” (volunteers were organizing workshops on gender, human rights and equality of genders for schoolchildren in Berdyansk), educational projects on human rights “Human Rights Traveller” (volunteers were organizing workshops on human rights with focus on national and sexual minorities), hosted international training course on fundraising; members of SVIT took part to international training course on project management, strategic seminar and international festival EurIdea. Several local meetings and workshops were organized to coordinate activities with local volunteers. Project budget for SVIT for 2006 – 10951,38 Euro. Project duration – 2006 – 2008. Funder – Youth Program of EU, through Service Civil International Germany.

International study visit “Chernobyl. 20 years after – so what?”. The project was organized jointly with Service Civil International Germany. A group of 20 participants from Ukraine, Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria from April 22nd till May 3rd traveled in Ukraine, visited NGOs and took part to different activities and actions related to Chernobyl disaster and its 20th anniversary. The study tour started with participation to the Earth day and the international Chernobyl conference: Chernobyl + 20- Remembrance for the future”. The program of the study visit included meetings with NGOs “MAMA-86” Kiev, “Golos Prirody” Dneprodzershinsk, “Civil watch” Nikopol, Environmental and Cultural Center “Bakhmat”, “MAMA-86 Artemovsk” and Artemovsk branch of “Chernobyl Union” in Artemovsk. In Dneprodzerzhinsk, Nikopol and Artemovsk public actions were organized jointly with local NGOs. Participants developed workshop on energy saving, concept for energy future of Europe, and elaborated suggestions for further activities and steps to be taken to educate public on environmental and energy issues, Chernobyl accident and its consequences; a brochure was developed on the study visit and its outcomes. Project budget (excluding international travel costs of participants) - 5760 Euro. Project duration – April – September 2006. Funder – Youth Program of EU, through Service Civil International Germany.
