Ecoschool - EVS
My name is Wolfgang
Seis and I am now EVS volunteer in Artemovsk. I am a student of
Environmental Science and Technology in Berlin. The project I am
currently involved in is called “Ecoschool”. This project was founded
in order to create and raise environmental awareness among young people
between 16 and 20. As I am fully supporting this idea and issue and
because of my interest in Eastern European countries, culture and
history I decided to come here. Right now I am working in different
schools, telling the pupils about issues like climate change, acid
rain, desertification and other major environmental problems we
currently face. The lessons are hold in English and partly in Russian.
Moreover, my volunteering service includes an English Club, where
people can come just to practice their English skills. This is an open
space for every topic of concern without the typical character of a
school lessons.
Personally, I regard this long term volunteering service as an
enrichment. Different points of view, another life style, nice people
but also some challanges like language barriers and being the foreigner
in a foreign country contribute to this opinion. The hosting
organisation SVIT is great, constisting not only of very nice and
interesting people but also allows the volunteers to participate in any
of their activities besides their main project, helps perfectly with
integration in the beginning and gives enough space for own ideas.
